"Tis the season to be a' drinking
Fa-la-la- la-la-la-la
Rum, scotch and vodka too
Fa-la-la- la-la-la-la
Everyone knows that when the Holiday Season comes 'round we all get together with friends, family and even co-workers to knock back a couple of rounds for the sake of holiday spirit and all that other good stuff. Unless, of course, you're the designated driver. This time of the year I put the crown and coke on the shelf and seek out more traditional ways to get the company sloshed. Bonus points if I get my beautiful wife drunk and we hurry off into the bedroom ;-)
Below is a list of my 5 favorite Holiday Drinks:
Note from Supabaub:
Be responsible and make a separate batch for your DD, omitting the alcohol; so they can part-take of the festivities too, we've all been that guy before. Don't leave your DD out of the party unless you don't need to go home, don't need to go get Tacobell at 2AM, don't need to buy a pack of smokes because your drunker self smoked all of yours, etc.
1. Santa Shake
Directions: Get a blender. Throw the whole quart of plain-jane vanilla ice cream into it. Add 1/2 cup vodka. Add 3/4 cup coffee liqueur. Add 6 tablespoons regular brewed coffee or 5 tablespoons of espresso. Put lid on blender, press button to blend, and drink.
2. Candied Rum
A note from Supabaub: You will need to get some dulce de leche. It is like a caramel sauce; you can buy the Hershey's version if your lucky enough to find it in the store. If you want to make your own visit this link dulce de leche (it has a video) or use this easy recipe I found for dulce de leche.
Directions: Grab saucepan. Turn on stove. Low-med heat. Add 4 cups milk (I use whole milk), throw in 1 cup of dulce de leche and whisk it until its come to a boil. Turn down heat and keep on whisking until it gets foamy/frothy. Add 3 shots of rum. Stir. Serve. Top of with a shake of ground cinnamon.
3. Hot "Man" Cocoa *said with a Grunt*
Directions: Grab a tub of swiss miss with the marshmallows and a saucepan. Dump 3/4 cup of the hot chocolate mix in 1/2 cup of water. Whisk. Bring to a boil. Stir in 2 cups milk, 1/2 cup heavy cream, and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla. Keep whisking on low heat. Add 1 oz rum (I use parrot bay and/or malibu) and 1 oz. amaretto liqueur. Put into a mug. Top with cool whip. If you need some bedroom points, get fancy and can throw some chopped chocolate and shredded coconut on top of the whipped cream.
4. Mom's Eggnog
Directions: Beat a dozen egg yolks in with 1 cup sugar. Set aside. Beat a dozen egg whites for about two-three minutes; add 2/3 cup of sugar. Set aside. Get saucepan, 1 quart of milk, 1 quart of heavy cream. Put milk and heavy cream in sauce pan and stir while turning up the heat. Med works. Add about 1 and a 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 3/4 teaspoon of ginger, 1 teaspoon of nutmeg. Add the egg-yolk-sugar mix. Whisk. Keep whisking. Keep whisking some more until thick. Lower heat. Add the egg-white-sugar mix. Whisk. Keep whisking. Keep whisking some more until mixed. Stir in your favorite flavor of rum, cognac or brandy until you have the flavor desired. Pour into serving container and put it in the fridge. Wait until cold, then drink.
5. Gingerbread Man
Directions: Slice some lemon. This drink can be made a by either getting a box of lipton ginger twist herbal tea bags and making the ginger tea the base or by steeping some grated ginger in hot water (1 tablespoon per 1 hot cup of water) for 15 minutes. The pre-made tea is just easier and you don't have pieces of grated ginger floating around you mug. After you brew your tea add a shot or two or three of your favorite bourbon. Throw the lemon slices in. Pour hot mix into mug. Make sure to include a lemon slice or two in each mug. Enjoy.
